Meet Jed Tarlow
Jed was born and raised in Bozeman, MT and learned to kayak when he was 13 after hurting his knee skiing. He immediately fell in love with whitewater and learned to guide a raft, turning his passion into a career. Now he guides for us on the Middle Fork of the Salmon. When asked about the Middle Fork, Jed says: "I love running all rivers, and they all have their own unique charm. I think what I really love about the Middle Fork specifically is the...
Middle Fork Snowpack Update
The snowpack on the Middle Fork of the Salmon is now well above average! Here's a map that shows the snow water equivalent (% of normal) for each river basin in Idaho. Here at ECHO World Headquarters, we regularly talk to guides, other outfitters, and gear manufacturers and our favorite topic is snowpack. At the end of January of this year we were talking about how bad it was. February, however, brought us an onslaught of storms that continued into early March and now the tone...
Headed to Bhutan!
Next month we'll be heading halfway around the world to explore the Rivers & Dzongs of Bhutan. This will be our third year of leading trips to this spectacular Buddhist kingdom nestled in the Himalayas. We love traveling to Bhutan for the pristine natural environments, unique cultural sites, and infectious natives that always make us feel so welcome. Unlike a typical river trip, we spend time hiking, biking, and rafting across the most scenic parts of Bhutan. We combine outdoor activities (especially rafting!) with visiting the...

Rogue River Fires
Last week the BLM closed the Wild and Scenic section of the Rogue River due to the Big Windy Complex fire. The fire was started by lightning on July 26th at around 3:00 AM in the morning. The Big Windy Complex consists of three separate fires - Big Windy, Calvert Peak, and Jenny. ECHO had a trip launch the day before the closure and although the canyon was smoky they had a wonderful time. Here are some guest quotes: "Every moment of our trip was perfect,...

Stand Up Paddleboarding
We've gone crazy for SUP (Stand Up Paddleboarding) here at ECHO! The new inflatable SUPs are much more stable, especially with their ability to punch through waves and remain balanced in rapids. We've been experimenting with the new boards this spring on the Hood River and White Salmon River - both within 20 minutes of ECHO World Headquarters. A few of us have even gotten comfortable running Class III and IV rapids! We just ordered some brand new Badfish MCIT boards for our Rogue River trips....
